Gloster canary Breeding room in Italy

English

Along wiht the common green or 3/4 green birds , i also host/breed many variegated, Blue and Cinnamon and some Yellow ,also clear, birds, because I reckon that Yellow and Variegated birds are extremely useful to transmit a very good background colour to the stock. I breed no more than 15/20 couples per year, since what I am looking for is quality, not quantity.
I belive it is very difficult to match/balance a higher number of couples. I feed my birds all year long with a mixture available on the market made up mainly of canary seed and dry egg feed;
Only during brooding/breeding time I add boiled seeds and small quantities of hard-boiled egg to the feed.

I have a large bird room with natural as well artificial light, userful for early preparation of brooding, hosting a rack of English-type modular cages, with just one open front, and some small aviaries for youngsters until they complete moulting.

For obvious hygienic-sanitary reason, my stud is divided into two blosks: one bird room where I breed/wean youngsters and I host the birds partecipating in shows, and a wooden bungalow where I host all the non-trasferable breeders of my farm during moulting and winter. The bungalow may not be visited. Only at the end of the show season, after disinfegting/disinfesting and keeping all birds which have partecipated in the shows quarantine, I re-introduce all breeders in the bird room for a new brooding period.
